the_avengers-1-chris_evans

It’s now in the third week and from what I’ve read it’s breaking every record made out there. Marvel’s The Avengers has come to be one of the best movies so far this summer. Today I’m going to review the movie, I wont go into too many details in terms of spoilers, all I can really tell you is go and see the movie. See it more then once, it’s worth it. I’m not 100% still on going to see it in 3D. I’m not going to lie that the ticket sales from that did boost it’s numbers, I’m just not a fan of the 3D fad.

That being said lets take a look at why this movie is great. Other then the fact Marvel kept their promise and gave us what they talk about wanting to do since they released of Iron Man. When you look at how they set this movie up, they did two Iron Man movies, Thor, Hulk and Captain America which where all solid films in their own rights. The weaker being Hulk and Iron Man 2, Thor maybe. It was more of a fun film and nothing really jaw dropping like Iron Man and Captain America where. That being said, there is a reason this movie has made $457.1 million domestically and $723.3 million overseas for as of today (May 21st 2012) $1.180 billion.

Character wise, one of the issues with movies like this (in terms of having many characters, think Spider man 3, X-Men for example) tend to run into issues of screen times. Some actors/actress just get more screen time due to their names and star power. While here, we have an equal amount of time there wasn’t any moment in the movie where I felt like man I wish there was more Iron Man or Hulk. While the Hulk himself only shows up twice, it never once makes me think it’s over done or just force on like some movies. Which is great because all of them well.. they didn’t like each other when the movie started and it took most of the movie for them to come together as The Avengers.

Story wise, it’s simple to be honest with you there is really nothing here we haven’t already seen. We have the main villain who wants revenge and to rule Earth and to do that he’s made a deal with someone to gain and army which he unleashed on Earth. How many times have you saw a movie with a plot like that? The reason it works here, even with such a simple storyline is because the characters and sets make it work. Never once did I just stop and say to myself “This is just another Alien Invasion movie”

Loki stole the movie in terms of the villains came, while there wasn’t too much for the aliens shown, they where just mindless drones that attack. I know some people complain saying that Captain America’s outfit was too silly and looked fake, maybe his suit is hard to really design for the big screen and I felt the way it looked in his movie was better compared to the solid colorful version this one had.

I wasn’t too happy about Thor in terms that once again they didn’t have him wearing his helm. To me that is what makes him look like Thor and it’s silly that Loki would ware his no problem but Thor can’t? Maybe its something to do with the version of Thor they are using who knows, maybe someone can lend me to the source that explains this. Oh and can I say that Black Widow was a down right fox in this movie? Scarlett Johansson is one beautiful woman and really play the character well this time around.

Overall, I can’t really complain too much, it does leave that effect in your mouth however, a taste for more. With Marvel doing Iron Man 3, Thor 2, Captain America 2 and likely other Avenger characters, I’m hoping they do another Hulk but at this point I think Hulk will end up simply being a supporting cast member in other Marvel movies now. Which is too bad, I really thought the Hulk was perfect this time, the actor, the CG all came together I think this time for Hulk. The reviews and comments I’ve read from people who say, they simply want to see the next Avengers movie, I don’t blame you. However.. I believe if Marvel keeps up this ideal of doing movies that set up the Avengers, that will make the next one big as well.

powerworldgoldpodcast

As I’ve talked about before with another podcast called Call To Auction, which I review not too long ago in fact. I must re-track a statement I made in that post stating that there where no other WoW Gold making podcasts out there. Well just as I made the post about a day after it was published, I found out about another pod cast called Power Word Gold.

So as you may guess, I found the website, which you can visit here, I must say not the greatest of looking websites but this isn’t about the web site design, this is about the podcast. Now at the time of writing this the pod cast has been out a few days and I’ve listen to it about 4 times already. One of the things I really enjoy doing is listening to WoW related content while I’m playing, as such either when I’m making gold myself or simply just leveling or farming.

Today I’m gonna be looking at Episode 27, I had planned to do the last episode first but sadly didn’t find the time to write it. So let me first start off with a few things, the show has one central host, named Jim Younkin who is the owner of Power Word Gold itself as well as all things. In a way this guy reminds me of myself and I’ll tell yeah what.. listening to him really gave me a kick in the ass. Pretty much he’s doing what I’ve been doing myself on and off for years but for whatever reason have never found a voice.

Anyways, he’s had different co-host here and their from the older podcasts I’ve listened, but none is my favorite more then Faid who I just started to follow on twitter as well not long ago. She is really an interpretation if there ever was on. I pretty much feel like we do the same things, other that she has a million gold and I run up to 100k and fall back down to 50K every time. Listening to what they talk about gold wise, I’ve been doing this and that. But the two major things they talked about in this podcast was the new Power Word Gold Guide and transmogrification.

I wont spend too much time spoiling the podcast for you but as I posted on their blog post on episode 27, about transmogrification, that is my thoughts about it. As for the gold guide, I have a bit of a split up easiness about it. First off I’m not a fan of buying gold guides. Main reason is it should be free. I sort of get putting it together in some sort of easy format for people to read and search, but that could simply be done for free with Google Ads attached in pairs of 3 per page.

My feeling on it, in the way Jim has gone about it, seems to be the best way, a pay what you want from 1 to 10 dollars. I haven’t personally looked at it yet, and he states that all the information is on the website for free, he had simply put it together in number of formats you can look at offline basically. In the end, I can’t say I recommend the guide, maybe I’ll take a look at it and write a review as well. Seems to be something I’ve enjoy doing more of as of late (Or at least been thinking more about).

If I have to compare this gold making podcast to others, I would say this is the best one I’ve listen too. They talk about Gold Making, they are both clear and easy to understand. They make you laugh, the make you think and you can really feel the energy between the two host and how they connect and bring the information they do. It really puts a fire in your backside and makes you want to get going I’ll say. Be sure to check it out, you wont regret it. I look forward to them doing another one soon and hope they spread their topics out some more. And I know it’s late Jim, but Happy Birthday.

devilinsidereview

To be blunt with you, I’m not really a big fan of the ‘found footage pseudo-documentaries’ style movies, there are a few that I generally did enjoy for what they where, for example Paranormal Activity 3 (I had seen the first 2 but didn’t feel the need to write a review seeing as they where way old now). But even as bad as Paranormal Activity 3 was for that film series, The Devil Insider.. made me wish the devil was inside me, so that I could rip my eyes out.

Seriously, the weakest part of the story is that, there is no story. Here we have this young woman Isabella Rossi (Fernanda Andrade), who at the start of the movie we basically learn that her mother (Suzan Crowley) murdered three people. The two priests and the nun were at her house to perform an exorcism. As you can guess, from this point on and for the whole movie, we follow Isabella on a quest to find out why her mother killed three people.

Here is where logic really starts to hit home, and I know that when we’re talking about something like this, you need to check that at the door. But when you question things while watching this shaky camerawork and spliced first person interviews crap fest you start to ask yourself a simple question; Why the hell are they still worry about the camera?

I think that’s the weakest part of these line of movies, at yes we understand that it’s suppose to be a documentary and all but when people start to end up dead, when your running for you life now, I personally would drop the heavy as camera. It’s one thing like in Cloverfield where your maybe far away from the action not so much happening to you directly, but when the ‘devil’ has possess someone and has killed.. you might want to think. That said, this movie would have done better had to been done ‘normally’ aka not found footage crap.

Without ruining the movie, I can tell you a number of things, we have Ben (Simon Quarterman) and David (Evan Helmuth), two Catholic priests who basically have gone rogue. Their against the Church in a way, performing exorcisms in secret because they’re cases are labeled as nothing more than ‘mental illnesses’. Here is where the story gets screwy and it tries to be something more.

Here we have Isabella more or less being selfish, she wants to save her mother, she believes a demon made her do what she did, and at this point you can believe that, I wouldn’t call it the devil (would think he have better things to do). Anyways we get hints that Ben did something pretty fucked up in his past, which comes up but never is really explain to what, just as Isabella is pointed out to have had an abortion of her child because she found out she couldn’t carry it to term. Which I’m no doctor I would think that basically means the baby wouldn’t have had a change to live. It’s a question and debate if that is wrong or not.. but that’s not what this is about.

In any case, the demon inside now wants to hurt her for being a baby killer. Jumping from person to person, starting with David, where he almost drowns a baby, to then the next scene shooting his brains out. We end up with what is a lot of talking, some small, funny not at all scary moments to the ending, where basically everyone ends up dead. What a shock right? Petty much this movie follows the same plot line as every other movie of its time.

With all that said, the biggest shortcomings in the way of personalities of the characters. I really don’t care about any of them and they are all trying too hard to be funny or to make you feel sorry for them. There was one thing that this movie does that stood apart from the others of its kind, it was graphic, we see blood, we see people toss, sadly we don’t see anyone outright killed, the only shot we see of someone being murder is when David, being processed by the demon holds a gun in his mouth and shoots. Other then that, all the graphic moments are more or less after math shots.

I don’t recommend this movie, its pure crap it had some really good chances to be something good, the story had too much of too little of nothing. I wasn’t sure if the movie was trying to save her mouth and cast out the demon or simply to prove that demons exists and these people need help. The best part of this movie, was the trailer sadly.

To sum up everything about this movie, it’s crap, it’s stupid, it’s not scary.. it’s not even funny it doesn’t give us anything new that I haven’t seen and the ending.. well.. is that it gives you a website address saying the case unsolved and go there for more information… What? Don’t see this movie, don’t even buy it I’m sure it’ll be on YouTube at some point.. or well you know.

calltoauctionreview

Greeting, I became a really big fan of listening to World of Warcraft podcast last year, starting with as you might guess, Call To Auction! What is Call To Auction you might ask? Well its a World of Warcraft gold making podcast. I found it by searching Google on tips on how to make gold, this was back in Wrath of the Lich King no less.

The basic format of the show is rather simple, the first series had two main host, Markco from Just My Two Copper, and Euripides from OutDPS. The ideal of it was. The first season as I like to call it, feature both Markco and Euripides talking about making gold with professions, but most of it was just them talking about the game and ways you could make gold. The overall theme of the show has always been a more open discussion format. Where many other podcast often follow a set sections or ‘features’.

While Call To Auction early on try to follow this, they end up going with a Today we’re gonna talk about this.. and that lead the whole show, making each podcast its own thing and not follow the format standard of other shows. This is what makes the podcast in my opinion 100 times better than others I’ve heard.

Today however, I’m gonna review Episode 27. The reason, is for one the podcast came back. The last podcast episode was in March of 2010, a while ago. In fact I had even delete the link and forgot about it given the fact that it simply was dead. Just like every other podcast that Markco did, every wow related project he’s touched as rose to the top and the fell like a rock once he was done with it. While this is not a bash Markco post, I don’t personally know him, I’ve had it out with him a few times on Twitter, more like disagreements of opinions… if nothing else I’m really happy he is no longer part of the show.

That being said, the next season while short-lived so far was my favorite given I really enjoy the host in BigJimm, who form my understanding left the show and likely even the game and blogger due to getting married or something like that. Guess the new wife didn’t agree with his life choice of podcasting and playing video games. (Shame)

On a personal level, I look forward to what the new player Fox Van Allen is gonna brought to the cast, he had an amazing voice, it’s really clear and funny. While I have nothing against Euripides, no matter what my opinions are about how he ran his guild (another subject all together), when it comes to gold making he knows his deal and I did learn a whole lot of awesome tips form him. His mic wasn’t coming in the best which is odd because on the Hunting Party Pod Cast it comes in much better.

My one idea for the show, other than doing them more often, like really would love to see a weekly show cast and I understand that might be hard for Euripides to do. But let me put some advice out there. If you’re gonna do something, you really need to put some time into it, even if you have to give up something else. If not don’t bother.

Right now, the WOW gold community as I see it seems to be dying out. The gold cap players seem to be leaving the game or either Rift or maybe now Star Wars. Some just out right stop playing WOW. A number of really good or use to be good websites have either fallen or closed down becoming ghost towns. I wont name any sites but they know who they are and I find it sad and a darn shame that some of them became sellouts and others are just to clutter or not big enough for people to take notice of them.

Overall, pretty good episode, I welcome back Call to Auction and I hope they get another host or even two more to fill the caps of episodes so we don’t see another gem of the WOW gold making community die.

hostgator

Today’s review is gonna be about Hostgator, web hosting that I have used in the past for my old blog RichardArellano.name and Majin Planet. So you might want to know some basics about web hosting. The first thing I want to tell you, is there is no such thing as ‘unlimited’ anything when it comes to hard drive space and bandwidth. This is something that many web hosting now claim to offer. Mostly in terms of shared hosting, I want to stress this I’m speaking about their shared hosting given that is what I was using.

I want to also point out right off the bat that I’m giving Hostgator a good review, I think that for what they offer they do stand far above the others and would recommend them to anyone. As you can tell I have banner’s up for their hosting, but that’s not to say they don’t have their flaws, like anything as you as the customer looking for hosting can decide.

Hostgator is a privately owned web hosting company founded in 2002. According to Hostgator official claims, they provide hosting service for more than 1,000,000 websites and lead in hosting reseller accounts with over 20,000 resellers.

The biggest feature for any web hosting comes down to quality of their support. My current hosting, Hawkhosting offer really quality support and what’s more is I never EVER have any issues. The main reason I ran into any sort of issue with Hostgator was you can guess, Majin Planet and simply keeping the site online due to traffic.

So what’s so special about Hostgator?

  • Reliable server with guaranteed 99.9% uptime
  • Host unlimited domain
  • Unlimited MySQL and POP3 email account
  • Room to grow
  • Environment Friendly

You think for the price tags of their servers, there is no way you could really host unlimited like that. Also 99.9% uptime is pretty much just a tag all hosting company have. Because the truth is, if the servers go down, they are down. In any given time frame, within a year’s time if you try to count how many times your server went down, counting downtime they do, installing new software, reboots, etc is it really 99% uptime? I’ll leave that one for you to decided.

In the end, all of this is just being picky and you want start a blog, you don’t want use blogger. Having more control over your content, what you have and the service is far more than anything. That is why I recommend using hosting, even if its cheap hosting. They have a ton of Promotions giveaways and codes, more than any hosting I’ve seen in my early days with DellHost.

Hostgator is a really good host, they give you what you pay for, if your website is small, growing and your just starting out. If your someone who needs something with more power, your likely not looking for shared hosting. They do offer their own servers at a cost but I can’t speak on that. What I will tell the reason I left was due to my website out grew them. You might say they have room to grow, they do but I outgrew shared hosting and I was not willing to pay 200+ a month for a web server when I didn’t feel just in doing so.

Have you ever used Hostgator? I want know what your opinion, so leave me a comment below.
