It’s now in the third week and from what I’ve read it’s breaking every record made out there. Marvel’s The Avengers has come to be one of the best movies so far this summer. Today I’m going to review the movie, I wont go into too many details in terms of spoilers, all I can really tell you is go and see the movie. See it more then once, it’s worth it. I’m not 100% still on going to see it in 3D. I’m not going to lie that the ticket sales from that did boost it’s numbers, I’m just not a fan of the 3D fad.
That being said lets take a look at why this movie is great. Other then the fact Marvel kept their promise and gave us what they talk about wanting to do since they released of Iron Man. When you look at how they set this movie up, they did two Iron Man movies, Thor, Hulk and Captain America which where all solid films in their own rights. The weaker being Hulk and Iron Man 2, Thor maybe. It was more of a fun film and nothing really jaw dropping like Iron Man and Captain America where. That being said, there is a reason this movie has made $457.1 million domestically and $723.3 million overseas for as of today (May 21st 2012) $1.180 billion.
Character wise, one of the issues with movies like this (in terms of having many characters, think Spider man 3, X-Men for example) tend to run into issues of screen times. Some actors/actress just get more screen time due to their names and star power. While here, we have an equal amount of time there wasn’t any moment in the movie where I felt like man I wish there was more Iron Man or Hulk. While the Hulk himself only shows up twice, it never once makes me think it’s over done or just force on like some movies. Which is great because all of them well.. they didn’t like each other when the movie started and it took most of the movie for them to come together as The Avengers.
Story wise, it’s simple to be honest with you there is really nothing here we haven’t already seen. We have the main villain who wants revenge and to rule Earth and to do that he’s made a deal with someone to gain and army which he unleashed on Earth. How many times have you saw a movie with a plot like that? The reason it works here, even with such a simple storyline is because the characters and sets make it work. Never once did I just stop and say to myself “This is just another Alien Invasion movie”
Loki stole the movie in terms of the villains came, while there wasn’t too much for the aliens shown, they where just mindless drones that attack. I know some people complain saying that Captain America’s outfit was too silly and looked fake, maybe his suit is hard to really design for the big screen and I felt the way it looked in his movie was better compared to the solid colorful version this one had.
I wasn’t too happy about Thor in terms that once again they didn’t have him wearing his helm. To me that is what makes him look like Thor and it’s silly that Loki would ware his no problem but Thor can’t? Maybe its something to do with the version of Thor they are using who knows, maybe someone can lend me to the source that explains this. Oh and can I say that Black Widow was a down right fox in this movie? Scarlett Johansson is one beautiful woman and really play the character well this time around.
Overall, I can’t really complain too much, it does leave that effect in your mouth however, a taste for more. With Marvel doing Iron Man 3, Thor 2, Captain America 2 and likely other Avenger characters, I’m hoping they do another Hulk but at this point I think Hulk will end up simply being a supporting cast member in other Marvel movies now. Which is too bad, I really thought the Hulk was perfect this time, the actor, the CG all came together I think this time for Hulk. The reviews and comments I’ve read from people who say, they simply want to see the next Avengers movie, I don’t blame you. However.. I believe if Marvel keeps up this ideal of doing movies that set up the Avengers, that will make the next one big as well.

Back in early February I talked about The Avengers movie, when they released the Super Bowl Ad, which I thought was really cool and well done. A few days ago, the final full trailer for the movie hit the internet and I must say I am now super pump for this movie. I could go into so many things that just made me go super wow watching it. First off, the Hulk; I have to say FINAL they got the hulk right. Sure I’m going to toss out there people may not like Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner. I think from what I can tell he does a good job and the way they made the Hulk look like him, makes the Hulk I think look better than he has ever look in the last two movies we’ve seen him in.
The movie itself, has some other awesome shots, such as there is one where Iron Ma is fighting and is knock down, where the Hulk saves him. Some of the issues I have with the movie and really this is just basically issues I have with comic book movies, where the heroes don’t ware a mask. I’m not that annoyed by what I’ve seen as there are a few hots of Captain America without a mask, but there are some really cool shots of him with it on. So it’s not that horrible. I am still annoyed that Thor seems to never have a helm on, nor does Hawk Eye have his mask, which I guess those are just being picky. Well nothing more to say, the movie comes on April 26th, I may even go see it in 3D.

I wouldn’t say I’m a big fan of the Super Bowl, in fact I would have to go out and say that I’m totally not and I didn’t even watch the game (nor did I even know it was Super Bowl Weekend this last Sunday) with that being said the one thing I generally DO like about the Super Bowl are the funny ads they play.
Past Super Bowls I would have watched them simply for that, but in the last few years you simply can find them online at YouTube. So you might guess, last night I found out Super Bowl was going on. I watched a few ads and some trainers that played.. the one that cough my eye was the one for The Avengers.
As you may or may not know about the Avengers, the movie is a first of its kind. You have Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, Captain America. Each movies base on those characters, and now we have the Avengers which is a movie bring them together. Same Actors (mostly, Hulk was Recast) and universe there for you get a real feel. Other then having all those movies and the Avengers using the same characters but different actors playing them.
I’ve talked about the Avengers a little bit but not in great detail yet. I don’t really want to spoil too much of the story for myself. Below I’ll link the two trailers, the first one I believe is what played on TV. The other is what show up online as a longer version with a bit more footage, what cough me and made me laugh was the last bit, I have an Army.. oh yeah? We have a Hulk.
So what do you think? Are you looking forward to going and seeing the Avengers on May 4th? Your more than welcome to leave us a comment down blow or drop in the IRC or send us a tweet @NeckarUnrivaled and I’d be happy to answer your questions.
