It’s now in the third week and from what I’ve read it’s breaking every record made out there. Marvel’s The Avengers has come to be one of the best movies so far this summer. Today I’m going to review the movie, I wont go into too many details in terms of spoilers, all I can really tell you is go and see the movie. See it more then once, it’s worth it. I’m not 100% still on going to see it in 3D. I’m not going to lie that the ticket sales from that did boost it’s numbers, I’m just not a fan of the 3D fad.
That being said lets take a look at why this movie is great. Other then the fact Marvel kept their promise and gave us what they talk about wanting to do since they released of Iron Man. When you look at how they set this movie up, they did two Iron Man movies, Thor, Hulk and Captain America which where all solid films in their own rights. The weaker being Hulk and Iron Man 2, Thor maybe. It was more of a fun film and nothing really jaw dropping like Iron Man and Captain America where. That being said, there is a reason this movie has made $457.1 million domestically and $723.3 million overseas for as of today (May 21st 2012) $1.180 billion.
Character wise, one of the issues with movies like this (in terms of having many characters, think Spider man 3, X-Men for example) tend to run into issues of screen times. Some actors/actress just get more screen time due to their names and star power. While here, we have an equal amount of time there wasn’t any moment in the movie where I felt like man I wish there was more Iron Man or Hulk. While the Hulk himself only shows up twice, it never once makes me think it’s over done or just force on like some movies. Which is great because all of them well.. they didn’t like each other when the movie started and it took most of the movie for them to come together as The Avengers.
Story wise, it’s simple to be honest with you there is really nothing here we haven’t already seen. We have the main villain who wants revenge and to rule Earth and to do that he’s made a deal with someone to gain and army which he unleashed on Earth. How many times have you saw a movie with a plot like that? The reason it works here, even with such a simple storyline is because the characters and sets make it work. Never once did I just stop and say to myself “This is just another Alien Invasion movie”
Loki stole the movie in terms of the villains came, while there wasn’t too much for the aliens shown, they where just mindless drones that attack. I know some people complain saying that Captain America’s outfit was too silly and looked fake, maybe his suit is hard to really design for the big screen and I felt the way it looked in his movie was better compared to the solid colorful version this one had.
I wasn’t too happy about Thor in terms that once again they didn’t have him wearing his helm. To me that is what makes him look like Thor and it’s silly that Loki would ware his no problem but Thor can’t? Maybe its something to do with the version of Thor they are using who knows, maybe someone can lend me to the source that explains this. Oh and can I say that Black Widow was a down right fox in this movie? Scarlett Johansson is one beautiful woman and really play the character well this time around.
Overall, I can’t really complain too much, it does leave that effect in your mouth however, a taste for more. With Marvel doing Iron Man 3, Thor 2, Captain America 2 and likely other Avenger characters, I’m hoping they do another Hulk but at this point I think Hulk will end up simply being a supporting cast member in other Marvel movies now. Which is too bad, I really thought the Hulk was perfect this time, the actor, the CG all came together I think this time for Hulk. The reviews and comments I’ve read from people who say, they simply want to see the next Avengers movie, I don’t blame you. However.. I believe if Marvel keeps up this ideal of doing movies that set up the Avengers, that will make the next one big as well.

To be totally fair about it, my overall opinions on the new Amazing Spider-Man movie haven’t changed too much from when I talked about it months ago. I’m still not sure about this whole Untold story or that from this latest trailer I get the hint that Peter Parker was always met to be spider-man? Um what? I’m pretty sure it happened by a mistake, he was doing something he shouldn’t have been.. no one plan for him to be bitten by a spider-like that.
But you never know when it comes to Hollywood and their crazy ideas to make something that works already better. Just like the first series of movies that focus too much on Peter’s life and not on spider-man. I hope that this movie, focusing on what Spider-man is. Lets look at this, now I’m no comic book nerd an nor do I pretend that I know every last detail of the comics.
What I do know is that Peter’s life is a living hell for him, he has a girlfriend, he goes to college. He’s really smart so everyone expects him to get good grades, he has his aunt who he feels guilty that she is alone now because he blames himself for his uncle’s death. Plus he needs a job to make his rent and have food and all that to live on. All of this is stressful for him and becoming spider-man is his stress release. This is why spider-man is a wise-cracker.
It may just be my opinion, but to he honest from the number of media I’ve watched and read (not counting the movies) he is Spider-man most of the time. The only time he wasn’t spider-man was when he went to see his aunt or was going to school which I know he sometimes missed in his early years. But for the most part, he was spider-man because he felt free of the stress. So I never understood that in the movies why they kept him as peter all the time. Maybe it was a budget issue, but maybe if they took the risk and had him be spider-man most of the movie, people would love it and it would more than likely make a lot of money.

The latest trailer looks pretty solid if you ask me, I like the fact things are brighter now and not so dark. This makes things look better if you ask me. I hate seeing CGI effect at night because I know it looks more fake and after Transformers you can do CGI in bright day light just fine now. Don’t be lazy and lame with it.
Overall I’m gonna go see it likely on opening night I’m not sure if it’ll make all kinds of money but I’m pretty sure it’ll be number one for at least a week or two. It would have to really be too cliche and bad for it not too.

I’m not a big fan of G.I. Joe to be honest with you, but what I am a fan of are just big entertainment movies that have a remote easy to follow story, some good action and above all else good acting. Nothing worst then watching an action blow them all up movie with a plot that really does nothing and acting that wouldn’t get you out of a paper bag.
That being said, today I’d like to chat about G.I. Joe: Retaliation. Now I didn’t go see the first one in theaters, I end up watching it on NetFlix months and months after the fact. It was OKAY in all truth the acting wasn’t really that great and the only thing really that I found good about it was Joseph Gordon Levitt who played this character called ‘The Doctor’ who end up at the end being Cobra Commander.
Now that was a mind twist to me and I really enjoy that, however looks like they are going another route with sequel because not only does it appear that Cobra Commander is going to be totally different, but also play by someone else. Which is too bad but I guess Joseph Gordon Levitt would rather have done The Dark Knight Rises which.. hell I don’t blame him.

The last thing I will say about the movie, that it does come out on June 29th 2012 so we still have about two more months for it to come out. I may go see this, just for the shit’s and giggles this summer, my list of movies long with Spider-Man, The Avengers, The Dark Knight Rises, etc. The one thing that is sticking out is Cobra Commander look which in the first one, I was like well guess they wont do his look from the cartoon due to some issue with some one.. but this time they pretty much have Cobra Commander looking like, well Cobra Commander. And I like that, plus it has the Rock in it so it can’t be too horrible, I mean I went and saw Doom but I was a big fan of Doom.. it’s too bad that got ruined.

Men in Black, oh one of my favitore movies from way back, the 3rd movie is coming out FINALLY on May 25th 2012. As you can guess it stars Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones, but this time there is a twist. The story of Men in Black 3 takes place ten years after the 2nd, and 15 years after the first movie (those wondering of the timeline). It also starting a set number of other actors and actresses which are all in my opinion pretty funny people.
If nothing this movie is going to be a send off to the series and hopefully will end on a good note and not well suck, I mean Barry Sonnenfeld is returning and Steven Spielberg returning as executive producer. Other then the Transformer movies, which I don’t really blame Spielberg for (he was also executive producer for those) I don’t think any movie he has been apart of has been horrible. But this could be the first.

One of the big things for me when it comes to movies are the trailers, the trailer can really suck me in and some times can just turn me off from something. The trailers.. are so FREAKY funny.. maybe some people may not but for me I laughed. Men in Black film series which is based on the Malibu / Marvel comic book series The Men in Black by Lowell Cunningham, I personally never read the comics but so far both movies have been awesome. I’m holding out that this one is great too, I’ll be there likely maybe this might be the first movie I ever see in 3D.

Well I don’t think I’m shocked to be perfectly honest with you, it seems that Hollywood’s likes to make movies they’ve already made. Call it lack of new talent, and I don’t mean the actors or actress, I mean the writers, the people who come up with the stories.
You might stop and wonder.. maybe we’ve already made everything there is to be made?? Maybe people are so bored of movies now that come out now a days.. well I think in some ways it’s both. Don’t get me wrong, some really fun movies have come out in the last 5 years, but nothing like the good old days of the 80s and 90s.
Sure you can question that, 80s? WTF yeah I know.. but I grew up in the 80s, just like someone who grew up in the 70s or 60s will say those movies are the shit compare to today. Truth is, I can name a number of really good movies that came out from 1980 to 1989. Let me see.. off the top of my head, Annie, Back to the Future, Beverly Hills Cop, Batman, Big, Blade Runner, Cocoon, Coming to America, Die Hard, Dirty Dancing, E.T., The Empire Strikes Back, Evil Dead, Ghostbusters, Karate Kid, The Naked Gun, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th, Police Academy, Predator, Rambo: First Blood , Rocky III, Short Circuit, Superman 2, and lastly Robocop.
That’s not even all of them, just browse 1980s to 1989 and you will find a massive list of movies that I bet some of them you forgot even came out in the 80s. What I’m saying is, those where some awesome movies and many of those movies had a number of spinoffs, sequels and some, yes have already had some remakes/reboots (Nightmare on Elm Street, Superman, Batman) with Robocop being next on the hit list so to speak.
I heard about the reboot months and months ago, but didn’t think anything of it really. That was until this latest news I read over the weekend about the release date, and in most cases I’ve seen when some thing gets a release date, generally means they are pretty close to making it. August 9, 2013
Sony Pictures has set the release date for the Jose Padilha-directed which I have to say after I read the article about it. I have some hopes this movie might be pretty good if it fits within the story itself. We run into the issues with later films but right now lets focus on the one.
“In the first ‘RoboCop’ when Alex Murphy is shot, gunned down, then you see some hospitals and stuff and then you cut to him as RoboCop. My movie is between those two cuts. How do you make RoboCop? How do you slowly bring a guy to be a robot? How do you actually take humanity out of someone and how do you program a brain, so to speak, and how does that affect an individual?”
This right here, that is interesting to me. One of the biggest problems I personally have had with so many remakes, reboots of films is they are just retelling, often times just trying to do it better with better acting, better CG work. Whatever the case, that is why I think Batman Begins did so well, sure it was a reboot, sure we’ve already seen the Joker.. and Two Face.. and what’s to come BUT they did something different. They show us something we never saw before, how Batman became Batman. This, how did Robocop become that.. what was the process.. that is very interesting to me.
We’ll see however, I really love the first 2 films, not so much the 3rd and the TV shows I never really got that much into it. But we’ll see how it goes right? I mean it could totally suck.. but I’m hoping for a good film here. So what do you think?
