Well I suppose it’s not really a shock when I think about it, reading over on MMO Champion today I saw a news post from today, that we wont be getting BlizzCon in 2012, which sort of sucks. I recall last year October having this discussion with my brother about going and we both decided that this year we would go.
I guess the reason is you know this whole ’2012′ ordeal, the end of the world. The truth about it is simply a matter if I believe that the world will come to an end in December of this year.
For those of you who don’t know what I’m talking about, basically the 2012 Phenomenon can be best stated from the Wikipedia page.
Here is a quote:
The 2012 phenomenon comprises a range of eschatological beliefs according to which cataclysmic or transformative events will occur on December 21, 2012.This date is regarded as the end-date of a 5,125-year-long cycle in the Mesoamerican Long Count calendar. Various astronomical alignments and numerological formulae have been proposed as pertaining to this date, though none have been accepted by mainstream scholarship.
A New Age interpretation of this transition is that this date marks the start of time in which Earth and its inhabitants may undergo a positive physical or spiritual transformation, and that 2012 may mark the beginning of a new era. Others suggest that the 2012 date marks the end of the world as we know it or a similar catastrophe. Scenarios suggested for the end of the world include the arrival of the next solar maximum, or Earth’s collision with a black hole, passing asteroid or a planet called “Nibiru”.
Scholars from various disciplines have dismissed the idea of such cataclysmic events occurring in 2012. Professional Mayanist scholars state that predictions of impending doom are not found in any of the extant classic Maya accounts, and that the idea that the Long Count calendar “ends” in 2012 misrepresents Maya history and culture. Astronomers and other scientists have rejected the proposed events as pseudoscience, stating that they are contradicted by simple astronomical observations.
So basically that’s what it is, that all will come to an end, simply because our current calendar is supposed to end, but in all truth of what I believe, I believe it’ll be a sign of new beginning and nothing more. Does this pan out to why Blizzard isn’t having their CON this year? I doubt it, but you know how people are with stuff like this.
Personally it sucks, I really wanted to go finally and I feel like this year, finally I’m in a good place in my life where I can head out there and do the things I want to do. Well no BlizzCon for me this year, maybe I’ll try to go to Comic-Con or another CON or something. We’ll have to see, but I thought it was worth bring up.
I really do like talking about stuff like this, ghosts, spirits, demons and aliens. I really don’t talk about it very much on here, perhaps I need to start doing that more often now. I like to however hear from the fans on what you wish to see, is this something you want to see posted? Let me know, send me an email or twitter me at @NeckarUnrivaled or leave a comment below.
